Guru Smarana Samithi

The date goes back to early 1980s. Those were the days of meetings, mass conferences and public processions causing noise pollutions with which people were fed up. So a few people formed an organization in 1981 known as Guru Smarana Samithi under the able presidentship of Sri. T.S. Sidharthan, to study the teachings of Narayana Guru in particular and other Gurus in general, and follow the path shown by them which, in no doubt leads to a life of peace and tranquility. Parent organization Narayana Gurukulam is the dedicated centre of Guru Smarana Samithi.

Every year Samithi conducts a seminar on the works of Guru Nitya Chaithanya Yati and publish books which are helpful to get primary knowledge of the mystic tradition of India. In 2009, the Samithi celebrated 70th birthday of Guru Muni Narayana Prasad, head of Narayana Gurukulam. The event highlighted Guru Muni's contributions to the modern day society in the auspicious presence of eminent personalities such as Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, Dr. Sukumar Azhikode, Kerala Assembly Speaker K. Radhakrishnan, Prof. M.K. Sanoo, Swami Prakashananda etc. Guru smarana samithi actively volunteered weekly study classes for one year on the works of Narayana Guru to 31 learners who were selected by a team well versed in Vedanta, and continue the same as monthly refresher and advance course.

"Gurudeva Parayana masam" identified as a sacred period from 17th August (Chingam 1st) to 21st September (Kanni 5th) every year is another well accepted programme of the Samithi. This period of 35 days honoring Narayana Guru's birth month will have studies and recitation of Guru`s sweetly musical poems mainly hymns of bhakthi, in the mornings or evenings throughout the month. This will give the households a momentum to regularize the study on Narayana Guru's teachings and their application in life. The Guru Smarana Samithi has been also conducting "Kavyamanjari (recitation competition of Guru's poems) for school students, so that the young generation gets enough chance to know the unique works of the Guru. The co-operation from the public is quite encouraging. Recently the Samithi came to understand that there are people around the world who sincerely want to know more about Guru and study his works and to get a peep into the age old wisdom of India. Guru Smarana samithi is happy to help these aspirants by opening a website exclusively to teach the wisdom of the Guru.

Guru Smarana Samithi has published a Smaranika on the occasion of the celebration of Guru Nitya's 60th birth day and Guruprasadam Smaranika on Guru Muni`s 70th birthday. Gurudeva Parayana masam, Guru Smarana Padavali, Pindanandi, Daiva Dashakam are other books published by Guru Smarana Samithi to impart Narayana Guru's life sketch, literature and compositions.

The Samithi also expect your advice and boundless co-operation.
